The Abacha warriors fought very hard, but they were no match for their enemies. Their enemies were invisible, except for their cutlasses, which sliced through the air and flesh. The Abacha warriors were being cut down mercilessly. Their cries were heard far and wide.

NDERIATUEGWU was restless. He was watching the battle through a bowl of water back at his shrine. He watched as his warriors were being mauled. He had to do something very fast. There was nothing he could do to the invaders, but he could buy time for his warriors to escape. He picked up a calabash filled with water and salt. He took it outside his hut, muttering incantations. He scooped and threw water into the air. Dark clouds began to gather with heavy winds. NDERIATUEGWU had summoned heavy rains!

Back at the battlefield, the warriors saw the dark clouds and felt the winds. Their amulets began vibrating violently, and they knew this was a sign from their medicine man. The winds gathered so much dust that no man could see the other. The remaining Abacha warriors seized the opportunity and escaped. They had lived to fight another day.

The news had spread like wildfire. Crowds gathered at the village square, listening to the tales of horror recounted by their escaped warriors. The stories were grotesque and scary. Was there even a way out, a man shouted from the crowd. There were shouts for NDERIATUEGWU to be summoned. They hoped he had a solution to their problem. The messengers came back. NDERIATUEGWU was nowhere to be found.
